Program Review

Program review at San Francisco State University includes:  (1) a self-study written by the department, school or program, (2) an external review that involves faculty, staff and students, campus leadership and peer faculty from inside and outside the CSU, and (3) review by the Senate Academic Program Review Committee (APRC). APRC writes a concluding action memorandum (CAM) summarizing commendations and recommendations. Along with the Dean’s memo, the CAM provides guidance for programmatic planning going forward. Two years after the CAM is signed, programs provide a progress report on the implementation of the recommendations from the CAM. Professionally accredited programs undergo review by APRC after their accreditation review is complete. CAMs are provided for accredited programs and they participate in the two year CAM review as well.

A cycle of program review is complete when all programs have undergone review. At that point the Program Review policy is revised, and the University moves to the next cycle of program review. SF State is currently in the Seventh Cycle of program review.
